Dinner Party Days

on

Wednesday 14th August
Right, back to Wednesday since this is a blog about food. My friends Dave and Suz came over to see my flat for the first time since I moved in, in February. I absolutely love hosting people for dinner so like to go a bit all out. For this one I decided to try a menu from Ottolenghi’s Simple

Starter: Burrata with Marinated grilled grapes and warm pita
Main: Pistachio & Lamb Patties with Sumac Yoghurt
Sides: Rocket & Parmesan Salad, Bulgar Wheat, Cherry Tomato & Herb Salad
Dessert: Honey & Yoghurt Cheesecake

While this is a make ahead plan I made all the it on the day (luckily I was working from home so could jump in and out of the kitchen). Spread over the day it was very achievable but it is certainly great to have an option to make in advance.

The starter – Burrata with Marinated grilled grapes and warm pita

The starter was absolutely delicious. We had it with warmed pita. It was so easy to make ahead and a great starter to dib into while I prepped some other bits. The sweetness of the grapes with the sharp fragrant marinate was really complex and I would definitely make it again. Super easy, super delicious.

Part of the main – Bulgar Wheat, Cherry Tomato & Herb Salad

This was a great make ahead dish and would be great to take to a BBQ or for a picnic in the park. Crunchy almonds, sweet onions, and fresh herbs and with the lamb burgers and yogurt dressing it was perfect. It felt like a really great summer/autumn menu and all the elements went really nicely together but on their own as well.

Dessert – Honey & Yoghurt Cheesecake with blueberries and edible flowers

Dessert was INCREDIBLE! I am not supposed to eat dairy but I have absolutely NO regrets. I would eat this again and again and again. Honey and Thyme Yogurt Cheesecake. It was so easy to make and I added blueberries and edible flowers because….why not? Like I like to go all out when I am hosting. I took it the leftover into work and it went down a storm. Diets were broken, recipes were given, plates were licked.

All in all it was such a lovely evening and the food went down a storm. I cant wait to have these guys over again and for my next dinner party.

My gorgeous friends with some gorgeous cheesecake

Until next time, eat well
